Hombre Records Presents David Zychek

"This is what I call Texas music, the stuff I grew up on and the music I still love dearly. I wouldn't be happier being anywhere else — this is what I hope to continue doing for years to come" – David Zychek

THE ZYCHEK BAND has been in existence, in various forms, since 1988, when David Zychek released his first solo album "Cause an Effect", a six song EP that captured the raw power of his trio — featuring San Davis on bass guitar and Gary Pavlica on drums. However, for David Zychek, the long musical journey began years earlier as he and San Davis made the pilgrimage to southern California in 1972 with the group Morpheus Fargo. Even in the early stages of their careers, the Texas influence that he and San brought to the band helped them get an endorsement deal with the biggest music electronics' company of the day, ALTEC-LANSING. From these humble beginnings, David's next move was to Denver, Colorado to join HEAD FIRST, a regional touring group that brought David's talents to the attention of record producer Keith Olsen (FLEETWOOD MAC, FOREIGNER, HEART, among others). The resulting band was called AIRBORNE and was immediately signed to Columbia Records in 1979. The group delivered one critically acclaimed album, and was picked by BillBoard Magazine as one of the top 5 of that year. From here, David joined forces with Ken Hensley, from the U.K.'s URIAH HEEP, to create the KEN HENSLEY BAND. Always keeping in touch with the Texas music scene, David and San formed the formidable trio THE GROOVE KINGS with drummer Gary Pavlica and toured the state. During this period, they headlined shows and backed up the legendary BO DIDDLEY in the summer of 1982. In 1987, David returned to Los Angeles to pick up on the studio scene as a session guitarist. Soon he was playing all over L.A. with members of the STEVE MILLER BAND and members of EDDY MONEY.

In 1988k David returned to Texas to form THE ZYCHEK BAND — which included Paul Brown on saxophone and vocals. In 1990, the group was brought to the attention of Larry Wallace, a sound engineer with PINK FLOYD. Larry immediately put together a plan to record THE ZYCHEK BAND and shop for a record deal. The recording, entitled "Bad Cats and Underdogs" was never released. (That year, Larry tragically lost his wife, who was a backup vocalist in Reba McIntire's band and died in a plane crash.) Though the band was signed to a development deal with BMG, the band didn't hold together. David picked up the pieces — minus the band — and went to work with producer David Prater (FIREHOUSE, DREAM THEATER) on a project for NIGHTRANGER in 1994. Brought in as an arranger for the album "Feeding Off The Mojo", it became obvious to the members of NIGHTRANGER that David could be very useful as a guitarist on the record and for the live shows as well. For a year of shows into 1995, David toured with NIGHTRANGER as guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Now, it was time to put the ZYCHEK BAND back together, and David re-enlisted San Davis on bass, Ronny Griffin on drums, and Paul Brown on saxophone. Recording began on "Behind the 8 Ball", a 10 song CD that features the many musical influences that have affected the career of David Zychek through the years of hard driving concert appearances. Soon to be released on Hombre Records, the CD packs a heavyweight punch with great songs and lyrics that brings Blues/Rock into the 21st century with a roar.
